farrier for over 30 years. I have a certificate in equine
appraisal. I broke and trained my first horse at 15 years
old and have trained many different breeds from different
disciplines. I have also owned a ranch with over 200 head
of running quarter horses and thoroughbreds and broke
and trained all of our colts before they went to the track.
I have known Paul Ortuno for over 18 years and watched
him become one of the finest trainer and teachers in the

| I have been training with Paul Ortuno for 1.5 years. I had been riding for more than 20 years.. It was not until I met Meet Paul that I realized that riding my did not know that I knew Nothing about Horsemanship, or understanding a horses mind, or movements.... In the past 1.5 years and weekly now, still I learn under the guidance of Paul, How to understand my horses behavior, his movements through softness and gentle hands, Why he does things, why he does not do things. My Journey with Paul has only just begun. As this year will be the year he teaches me how to finish a Horse, as I have acquired a young mare, and plan to bring her full cycle with Paul.. I have been venturing way out of my comfort zone since teaching with Paul, I have started showing my horse's and competing not only at a horse Show Level but in Trial Trials Throughout California in the open division, And yes I have been Placing 3rd and 4th and will always push myself each trial. I was 4 years old when I wanted a horse....It wasn't until I was 59 years old and retired when unexpectedly a nearby ranch had received about a dozen horses that needed to be placed...
Daily I would walk over to the new herd just to say hi and to enjoy their beauty. Then I realized in the herd was a small gray colt who was having problems eating due to the jealous Stallion.
Well you must know the rest of the story....I fell in love with the little gray horse who turned out to be a 2 year old Arabian and this 59 year old women was in love. However, he world warned me
against owning such a young horse...What to do?????
A friend told me about Paul Ortuno a nearby horse trainer. So I called him and asked if he could evaluate the colt for me. As soon as he saw the colt he said "I hope you don't plan to ride that horse
anytime soon".Me???? Last time I was on a horse was at 4 years old. He evaluated the colt for proper confirmation and health.
Now 3 years have passed since first meeting Paul and this past summer I took 72 riding lessons. My horse is now 5 years and I am 62. What a spread! But everything is working out just beautifully.
And this would have never been possible without the guidance and knowledge from a man who has passion and respect for horses and people. It is very spiritual to know this person for Paul's main
goal is to make people who love horses and horses who need people connect in the most positive way.
To me it is a miracle that I would retire to Big Bear Lake, meet my beautiful Arabian and then meet the most incredible horse trainer ever. What more can I say about this person
who helped me through the absolute joy of learning how to ride a horse...and what true horsemanship is all about

| Dearest Paul and staff, I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you and let you know how much you have helped my mare and me. A friend and I attended one of your clinics at the Palm Springs West Fest earlier this year. I found the information to be exactly what we (my mare and I) needed. It was delivered in such a way that left me feeling empowered about what I can do, opposed to feeling guilty for what I haven't done. Thank you for telling me that its okay to spend 15 minutes with her. I always found myself thinking that if I couldn't spend an hour working with her then I shouldn't even bother. And then when days go by and I hadn't done anything, I would feel horrible. Since your clinic I've been spending at minimum 15 minutes a few times a week with my mare and can honestly say that we now have the relationship that we've both been looking for. Her behavior is entirely different! She is quiet and calm rather than anxious and jumpy. Our trust in each other is being renewed with each step we take together.
